Accessibility arrangements in the organization
Physical Access
The venue provides step-free access via a wheelchair lift to publicly accessible areas.
All public doorways are wheelchair-compliant, supporting independent movement throughout the building.
Accessible toilet facilities are available on site.
Hearing & Sensory Access
We are actively planning the installation of a hearing loop system as part of our capital development and continuous improvement programme, increasing access for D/deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences.
Relaxed & Inclusive Performances
Where appropriate, particularly for family-friendly shows, young people’s work and community events, we will programme relaxed performances.
These may include adjusted lighting and sound levels, a more informal audience environment, and the freedom for audiences to move, make noise or take breaks as needed.
This approach supports access for neurodivergent audiences, people with learning disabilities, families with young children, and those who may find traditional performance settings challenging.
Ongoing Commitment & EDI Practice
As a historic venue in active redevelopment, accessibility at The Assembly Rooms Newcastle is an evolving process. We are committed to:
Embedding accessibility and inclusion into our programming, operations and capital development
Consulting with audiences, artists and community partners
