About the event
Your journey begins at Alderman Fenwick’s House, once home to the Queen’s Head Hotel, where Dickens himself stayed during his visits to Newcastle.
Gather in the Great Room—the former dining room and bar salon of the hotel—where the atmosphere still echoes with the spirit of the Victorian age.
From here, your expert guide will lead you through the historic streets of Newcastle, revealing the stories, settings, and social fabric that connect this great northern city to Dickens’ world. Expect vivid storytelling, hidden details, and a glimpse into the lives and landscapes that shaped his writing.
The walk concludes at the magnificent Assembly Rooms—one of the very venues where Dickens performed—bringing your journey full circle, from where he stayed to where he took to the stage.
A rich, atmospheric experience blending history, performance, and place—this is Dickens’ Newcastle brought to life.
