Just in time for Halloween, horror is reborn at the Assembly Rooms Newcastle as part of the venue's 250th-anniversary celebrations.
Stevenson's novella is barely a hundred pages, and almost all of it takes place among respectable men in respectable rooms. Hyde's London is described, never entered. Craig Wilde's new adaptation goes where the original will not. Set in and around an East End music hall, it opens the story out into the gaslit world Jekyll unleashes and cannot control: the halls, the back rooms, the songs, and the people who live there.
