About the event
Inspired by the real women behind Charles Dickens’ Home for Fallen Women, Urania is a
moving new piece of theatre about friendship, survival and the complicated promise of
rescue.
In 1847, Charles Dickens and philanthropist Angela Burdett-Coutts opened Urania Cottage: a
home where women society had cast aside could be educated, trained for domestic service
and offered the chance of a new life overseas.
