The Grand Assembly Room is the beating heart of the building — the space that gives the Assembly Rooms its name. Designed by William Newton and opened in 1776, this first-floor room retains its original Georgian proportions and ornamental detail, lit by statement chandeliers that have overseen 250 years of Newcastle's civic and social life. It's a room built to make an occasion feel like one: ideal for weddings, gala dinners, awards ceremonies and premium corporate events for up to 300 guests. As one of the finest surviving Georgian assembly rooms in England, in a building placed in the top 8% of all listed buildings nationally, it offers a level of heritage character that few venues in the North East can match.
